Underwater Neighbours is a comic book created to raise awareness and encourage engagement in the protection of marine environments. This science-based educational comic book invites readers to explore the Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area through the eyes of its marine inhabitants, revealing a vibrant biodiversity and the challenges these species face.
School Tour
A tour of primary schools across Gaspésie in winter 2026 will offer students the opportunity to explore the themes of the comic book in greater depth through educational workshops. These workshops include interactive activities to learn more about the animals living in the Banc-des-Américains Marine Protected Area and the challenges they face.
Activity Guide
An activity guide will soon be available on our website, allowing teachers to lead workshops independently.
About the illustrator
Based in Gaspésie, illustrator Fannie Desmarais creates artwork using both traditional and digital techniques. On top of her numerous endeavours, Fannie also has her own business creating greeting cards, calendars and stickers, among other products. Reflecting her vision, imagination, environment and lifestyle, her artwork combines realism and simplicity, and uses contrast to highlight the subject and evoke emotion.
